Summer is in full swing, and HOMEARAMA® 2021 is just around the corner! While you wait for the show, get to know Parkside Estates at Coldstream, this year’s HOMEARAMA® site and an epicenter of fun summer activities. From waterslides to nature trails to outdoor shows, here’s our list of the best things to do this summer in or near Anderson Township.
Few things are as integral to Anderson Township than Coney Island. Deemed “Cincinnati’s playground,” this water park is perfect for the whole family and will ensure all-day fun. The new Challenge Zone of obstacle courses brings excitement to the more adventurous while those looking for some relaxation can lounge at the Sunlite Pool. With fun events throughout July and August, cool off and have a blast at Coney Island.
While you’re at Coney Island, hop over to Riverbend for the resurgence of live music. The beloved venue’s outdoor concerts this season include Hall and Oates, the Jonas Brothers, Jimmy Buffet, Alanis Morissette and Chris Stapleton to name a few, offering a range to suit everyone’s music taste. Snag tickets to hear your favorite musician live this summer and create a lasting musical memory.
Woodland Mound offers something for everyone. Nature lovers can enjoy the wildlife exhibits and Seasongood Nature Center, and kids will love all the playgrounds, including Parky’s Wetland Adventure. Those looking for some physical activity can take advantage of great hiking trails as well as outdoor fitness classes. Looking to perfect your putting? You’ll find that the park’s golf course, the Vineyard, is one of the best in southwest Ohio. Woodland Mound is also known for its stunning river views, perfect if you’d rather find a quiet bench to simply enjoy the day. With additional picnic areas, a disc golf course and a boat launch ramp, this park is the place to spend many summer days.
Another nearby park, Beech Acres, is a favorite in Anderson Township, boasting tons of amenities to suit everyone’s interests. There’s a playground and water play area for the kiddos as well as rentable shelters for your summer gatherings. Bring out your competitive side with athletic fields and a volleyball and basketball court or put your helmet on to enjoy the skate park. There’s also an amphitheater with several concerts planned, as well as a paved hiking and biking trail and a firefighter’s memorial. If it gets a little too hot for your liking, step inside the adjoining Anderson Parks RecPlex, featuring an indoor gym, patio and classrooms for summer camps.
If you’re looking to unwind and unplug, Withrow Nature Preserve is the perfect spot for you. It features a 1.7-mile nature trail so you can best absorb southwest Ohio’s natural beauty. Step away from the everyday hustle and bustle and enjoy a scenic day of summer’s vibrant colors on this 207-acre preserve.
If you’re looking for a more exciting, adrenaline-filled summer night, head to Belterra Park in Anderson. With some luck on your side, play one of their 1,300 games or get up close to the action by watching a horse race. You can also enjoy one of the casino’s many restaurants that boast over 100 beers and locally sourced foods. Belterra is sure to offer a memorable summer experience.
One of the amazing things about Parkside Estates is its proximity to I-275, making it a short drive to other exciting summer activities. Within just a few exits of Anderson are these worthwhile stops:
Nature lovers rejoice at California Woods Nature Preserve! Just west of Anderson Township, this preserve features 113 acres of forest with nature trails to explore it all. Spot woodpeckers and owls as well as tons of other types of trees, plants and wildlife. You can also explore the Lick Run Creek and the butterfly and hummingbird garden to see just how many creatures you and your family can spot all in one place.
For another adrenaline-filled summer day, visit Scenic River Canoe Excursion on the Little Miami River. Have an unforgettable adventure with friends or family. The canoeing company features both canoes and kayaks and two different adventure trips. The river is considered generally beginner-friendly, so no expertise or previous canoeing experience is required. Or you can opt for a more peaceful and relaxing trip by going early in the morning or on weekdays. Either way, you’ll get to explore the river in a whole new way.
Only 15 minutes from Anderson Township is the Great American Ballpark. Catch a Reds game and explore surrounding downtown Cincinnati, seeing sites like the Reds Hall of Fame, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, river tours, multiple parks and the Banks.
Just across the river from Great American Ballpark (and still only 15 minutes away) is the newly revamped Newport on the Levee where there’s some fun for everyone. The kids will love the aquarium, and with so many fascinating aquatic critters, you will too. The Levee also features local restaurants and bars you can enjoy day or night as well as boutique shopping and a state-of-the-art AMC theater where you can catch the latest flick. Watch for weekly trivia nights, outdoor concerts and exercise events to keep the summer fun going.
Catch a show this summer with Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s Shakespeare in the Park! They’re offering free shows all summer long throughout Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky with some only minutes from Anderson. Bring your blanket and some snacks for a fun summer evening and a great performance.
